Basildon Choral Society in concert

Steve Nice has pressed CDs of both the Gößweinstein and Kraftshof concerts. As a taster, listen to the samples below:

Locus iste – Gößweinstein

The Lord’s my shepherd – Gößweinstein

The bold grenadier – Kraftshof

If you are interested in buying one or other CD recordings, email Steve Nice.

Lieber Herr Kopp

Geoff Williams

Dear Mr Kopp,

I am writing to you on behalf of Basildon Choral Society to thank you for letting us sing in your church, the week before last.

On the following Wednesday we also sang in the Gößweinstein Basilica and, overall, we spent a marvellous week in Franconia.

Yours,

Geoff Williams

Lieber Herr Williams,

Chr. Kopp

Dear Mr Williams,

Unfortunately after half-an-hour I had to leave for an appointment – I really enjoyed the concert. During one of the pieces I had tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful.  Many people wanted to come but couldn’t.

Many thanks and greetings to Britain.

Yours,

Christian Kopp.

Bavarian photos

These are some of my favourites from the fifty or so pictures of our Bavarian trip so far submitted. You can see the rest by looking at our Flickr photostream! I am sure there are many, many more lovely pictures out there. Why not email them to choirpics@basildonchoral.org? (And tell me you’ve done it so that I can put details of who took them in the description!)

IMPORTANT: Music copies from Gößweinstein

This is an important reminder for those who went to Gößweinstein. If you’ve not already returned your music copies to Joan somehow, or made arrangements with Margaret (or a relative) to do so on your behalf, please remember to bring it to tomorrow night’s rehearsal. Or the librarian will be on your case!

And everyone's watching the boss !

Another press report of the Gößweinstein concert

A different newspaper but mostly the same text and a different photo. And this time everybody’s watching Stephen!

Report of our Gößweinstein concert in the Nordbayerisches Kurier

Thanks to Geoff Williams for this translation of an article published on Friday 29th October, sent through by Mr Polster, the owner of the coach company. Beware that it is a big dowload (around 11mb!). Top marks, too, to Geoff, Felicity and Cherry for being the only ones of us to be watching Stephen at the moment the photographer took his snap…

Heike’s Savoy Cabbage (Wirsing) recipe

Step 1

  1. White onions, cut into cubes
  2. Diced white bacon (probably streaky?)
  3. Garlic roll (is this a clove do you think?)
  4. Sauté all

Step 2

  1. Chop the cabbage, remove tough stems
  2. Pour in stock and simmer well for three-quarters of an hour

Step 3

  1. Puree with a hand blender to your preferred consistency (i.e. not too much!)
  2. Thicken with corn starch /Roux
  3. Add cream
  4. Season with nutmeg and granulated bouillon (stockcube)

If anyone has any tips on how to improve on this, please add your comments!

Return to Gößweinstein

So the choir returned  to Gößweinstein and enjoyed the hospitality of Berndt and Heike in Gasthof Stern. Many fond memories for everyone – including Bryan and Claire who nearly didn’t make it home…

Welcome to the new BCS website

Welcome to the new website for Basildon Choral Society. As you can probably tell, it is hosted on WordPress and should now be a lot more flexible for all to use. Here you’ll find out how to get in touch with choir, when the next concerts are, when the next trips are and what socials are going on. You may also stumble across tidbits of information about composers and choral music in general (not to mention the occasional recipe!).

Please look around and make yourself at home. :-)

Ben
